WSW cooperates with all EPA regulations, laws and monitoring processes to ensure that projects are viable and sustainable to the environment. WSW has worked on several Consent Decree mitigation projects.
WSW is a single entity, design-build ecological restoration company. WSW manages and oversees the design and construction stages of each project. Sub-contractors, such as heavy equipment or seeding/hydromulch companies, will be contracted and managed to work on projects if there is a specific need for them.
WSW works towards the replication of natural stream dynamics within the application of restorative integrity. WSW assesses each river system’s physical and biological components in order to improve it, whether it is for water quality, fish and wildlife habitats, or bank stabilization efforts. We take pride in designing aesthetic and natural looking projects, and each stream project is unique.
With each project WSW focuses on enhancing as many aspects of the various wetland types as possible. Our experience creating stable stream channels greatly helps us achieve our wetland goals. This includes increasing the biodiversity of wildlife habitats while improving long term structural integrity and water quality. WSW is on the U. S. Army Corps list of recommended Wetland Delineation Specialists. Some wetlands we’ve completed are within Mine Reclamation sites, we’ve design-built treatment wetlands to mitigate acid mine drainages. Projects are completed creating ecological integrity and functional solutions.
WSW will design Stormwater Management Plans and create erosion control systems proactively within projects. WSW utilizes a variety of best management practices combining proven successes within stream restoration and mine reclamation projects. WSW fulfills all requirements and regulations needed for these services. WSW is a Certified Erosion Control Inspector and Erosion Control Supervisor.
WSW understands effective communication is the most essential component to all successful projects. Through education and public resource development WSW tries to engage the community. Educational site visits at projects is always encouraged.
WSW continually expands its experience within the challenge of Mine Reclamation projects. WSW has used many proven river restoration and stormwater applications in combination with mine reclamation techniques to achieve success. WSW works with various public and private entities, striving to enhance water quality while creating a more stable and functional system. WSW is a State of Colorado Certified Industrial Waste Water Operator and works within State Discharge Permits.
WSW typically obtains a U.S. Army Corps Permit on all required projects that we design and/or build. WSW ensures compliance within the U.S. Army Corps permit for each project. WSW also manages certain projects to remain in compliance by ensuring an Army Corps permit is not required.
WSW process includes studying field hydrology and fluvial geomorphology; we qualify how the movement, distribution and quality of water sources surround particular areas. Within natural or man-made aquatic resources, WSW will study each watershed to determine an accurate evaluation of the system and what can be improved upon.
WSW goes through required processes with the Division of Water Quality and State Water Court to ensure conditional and absolute water rights for clients, especially in the State of Colorado. We visit landowner’s property and communicate as to where and what they have the right to use, whether it is for irrigation canals, navigating certain waters or the use of water from streams or lakes. Water rights are incorporated into most of the projects that WSW takes on, confirming each area is allowed for usage or for modification.
WSW designs and builds ponds for various purposes such as creating or increasing biodiversity. Projects improve productivity, water quality, recreational opportunities and aesthetics in a variety of different settings. WSW emphasizes within pond creation to appear natural and blend into the natural surroundings and topography. WSW installs hydrophytic vegetation native to riparian and aquatic environments to improve aesthetics, water quality and biologic diversity.
